Oct 8 Grizzly Bonanza

Today we saw 14+ grizzly bears chasing fish on the spawning grounds. In October we run out of visitors in the best time to see grizzly bears eating salmon. But the weather gets wild, and the bears are soon off to hibernate. Time for us to put the boats to bed and head south...

BIRDS:
numerous bald eagles
rhinoceros auklets
marbled murrelets
Caspian terns
Bonepart gulls

MARINE MAMMALS:

Humpback whale

Grizzlies are wonderful. Thanks for sharing. Thanks to precious Knut and lovely Flocke I have become a bear fan. I have read that current research is finding them to be as intelligent as the great apes and emotionally complex. Knut's antics were so clever on YOUTUBE that it doesn't surprise me. Bart the famous Kodiak is a perfect example of the loving and also snuggly lifelong bond (23 yrs) that can exist between bottle fed orphaned cubs and their human parents. Bears need respect and protection.
